Alice Mary (Lockwood) Krenke

Alice Mary Krenke, age 81, unexpectedly passed away on December 31, 2021, one day shy of celebrating her 61st wedding anniversary with the love of her life, Jerry.  She was met, in the Kingdom of Heaven, by her parents Kenneth and Mary Lockwood and her brother Ralph Lockwood. She is survived by her  loving and devoted husband, Vincent Gerald Krenke (Jerry), daughters Elizabeth Broas and Mary Alice Hine, her son Kenneth Krenke, her son-in-laws Tony Broas and Frederick Hine Jr. , her daughter-in-law, Shelly Castiola, sisters Gloria Evans and Laura Lockwood and her six grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, Paige, Joshua, Chace, and Madeline.

Alice met Jerry, the love of her life, at church when she was 16 and he was 19, 66 years ago.  Alice and Jerry’s undying love for each other only became stronger with each year that they shared together.  Alice personified the very meaning of love and devotion through her marriage and her loving relationship with the family they created together.  Alice and Jerry were inseparable in body and in spirit.    Throughout their 66 years together, Alice loved Jerry and Jerry loved her back with intense and everlasting affection.  Their wonderful lifetime together will forever stand as a testament to the sanctity of marriage.

In her youth, Alice was a voracious learner and an astute student. She received a full scholarship to college but she did not accept it, so that she could assist her family in a time of need.

She continued to learn through her passion for reading and always loved watching Jeopardy with her family.  At the age of 21, Alice married Jerry and they began their lifelong journey together.  In the years that followed, they raised a family of three children, while she worked in various fields including accounting, banking, and elementary education.

Alice was a longtime resident of Fairfield and later moved to Stratford, CT. She was an active member of her community, always driven by service to others. She was an active member of First Church Congregational her entire life. There, Alice volunteered for many fundraisers including; acting as chairwoman of the annual Christmas Fair, the Operation Hope tag sale, and the “CHURCH STORE,” where she cherished her time spent with wonderful friends.  She was also a member of the Fairfield Women’s Club, which also engaged in many philanthropic efforts.

She loved to tell the story of how she met a wonderful young man working at the Woman’s Club Mother’s Day Fair, and arranged for him to meet her daughter, Mary Alice.  In the months that followed, that young man became her son in law, and ever since, she proudly told that story, emphasizing that she knew he was the one for her daughter as soon as she met him.

More than anything in her life, Alice intensely loved her husband, children, grandchildren and her dear friends.  Throughout her life she selflessly gave expecting nothing in return but love, smiles, and happiness.  She touched everyone she met with warmth and kindness and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Due to the current status of the pandemic, a memorial service for Alice is not permitted in her beloved church at this time. As soon as our minister is able to open the church to everyone, we will be together and have a beautiful service to celebrate Alice’s wonderful life.
