Aline Cornwall Gillies

Aline Cornwall Gillies, of Southport CT died peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2016 in her home. Aline was born in 1919 in Bridgeport, CT, daughter of the late Laurence M. Cornwall and Marian Paige. She graduated from Miss Porter's School in 1938, and in 1941 married James Perry Gillies, Jr. of Winnetka, IL. Aline and Jim moved to Fairfield in 1942, and shared their life together until Jim's death in February 2004. For many years they also owned a home in Wellfleet, MA where they spent their summers. Aline was a long time member of the Country Club of Fairfield, The Greenfield Hill Congregational Church and the Fairfield Garden Club. She was a knitter, an arranger of flowers, hooker of rugs, and a keeper of friends. She was a champion friend-maker, and is survived by friends new and old from every generation. Aline will be deeply missed by her children, Paige C. Gillies and her partner Martha Zinn of Easton, Gail G. Smith and her husband John Svidro of Hobe Sound, FL, J. Perry Gillies and his wife Valerie of Easton, her grandchildren: Wyatt, Ariana, Aaron, Jesse, Clare, Amelie and her great-grandchildren: Jim, Ryan and Erin. At Aline's request, there will be no services, but friends are invited to a party celebrating her life on September 20th from 2PM to 4PM at The Country Club of Fairfield, Sasco Hill Rd., Southport, CT.
