Ann Littlejohn of New York, NY passed peacefully on July 1, 2017 after a brief period of declining health. Ann was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 1, 1932, the third of four children and the only daughter of Bernard and Helen Keane Gilhuly. Ann attended St. Thomas Elementary and Roger Ludlowe High School (class of 1950), and was a graduate of Marquette University.
Ann had a robust and successful working career. Directly out of college, she worked for Vice President Richard Nixon. She subsequently worked at ABC and then at NBC in Manhattan. Later, Ann was an instrumental player in the film and TV division at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Ann was the widow of Francis "Fritz" Littlejohn, a pioneer of television news. They were married for over 40 years until his death in 2006. Ann and Fritz were well-known summer residents of the Village of Kismet on Fire Island from the mid-1960s until Fritz's death in 2006. Together they shared many sunsets with friends and family from their westward facing deck providing an unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean and the historic Fire Island lighthouse. Ann was an avid award winning photographer, and in addition to becoming a published professional was also known on the island as the Deer Lady for her well known photographs of the island's deer and island life in general. She was a world traveler and loved her time photographing China, South America, Cuba and other countries and cultures too numerous to list.
Ann was an ardent supporter of women's issues which reflected in her politics. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Bella Abzug in her successful run for the U.S. House seat from New York in 1972, and more recently, of Hillary Clinton, both in her successful Senate run and her failed bid for the 2008 Democratic nomination.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ann was pre-deceased by two of her brothers, Bernard Gilhuly and Robert Gilhuly. She is survived by her brother William Gilhuly of Fairfield, CT and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield .
