Ann C. "Nancy" (Callahan) Richter

Ann C. “Nancy” Richter, age 88, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Richter, was welcomed into heaven on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Nancy is survived by her five children, their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren:  Paul (Suzanne Nixon), and his sons Matthew and Jack and their mother, Margaret; Bob, his wife, Andrea, and their children Stephanie, her husband, Neil and their children, Evelyn, Isabelle and Thomas, Bobby (Erica Peterson), Jamie and his wife Isabelle, Abby and Elizabeth; Peter, his husband Tim; Stephen, his wife, Kim, and their children Jenna and Mia; Ann O’Leary, her husband, Jim, and their children Patrick, Erin, Bridget and Shannon.  She was predeceased by her parents Charles L. Callahan and Ann Killilea Callahan, and siblings, Rev. Robert Callahan, Ruth Ann O’Connor (Ray), Rev. Charles Callahan, Madeline Brock (Richard), Rev. Francis X. Callahan and Jacqueline Lembo (Jerry).

Nancy was born in East Haven and had been a Fairfield resident for over 60 years.  She graduated from East Haven High School and Albertus Magnus College and in her early years worked as a Social Worker for families and children in Bridgeport.  After marrying Gene, the love of her life, she devoted her life to raising her family. She loved nothing more than having a child in her arms and delighted in time spent with her family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  A woman of profound Catholic faith, Nancy was an active parishioner for over 50 years of St. Pius X Church where she served on the Parish Council, a CCD and RCIA teacher, a prayer line participant, Book Club member and a volunteer for the annual Church picnic. She also served as a volunteer and patient advocate at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for many years.  Nancy will be affectionately remembered for her engaging spirit and wit.  She followed the preaching of Rev. Richard Rohr, Sister Joan Chittister and many others who emphasized that God’s love is for everyone, that everyone belongs and living your faith is the most important thing one could do.  The family is eternally grateful for the caring hands of Sheila Merchant who provided care and comfort to Nancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may greet the family at a reception celebrating Nancy’s life following the burial.
