Anne V. (Kelly) Mead age 90, of Fairfield, CT beloved wife of 55 years to James J. Mead (previously deceased) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Born in Elmhurst, NY, Anne was a resident of Fairfield for the past eleven years, previously living and raising her family in Westbury, NY for nearly fifty years.
Following her education, Anne thoroughly enjoyed working as an executive buyer for Allied Stores purchasing infant and childrenswear for over 90 stores. When Anne took time off to raise her family, she became very involved with St. Brigid’s Catholic Church and elementary school where she taught CCD and was a recess mom. She was a 4-H leader and volunteered at the camp in Riverhead, NY while her children attended camp. She enjoyed community service and delivered Meals on Wheels to the homebound.
Initially Anne returned to retail working part time at Bloomingdale’s and eventually went back full time working for Stern’s and Macy’s in HR. Anne loved the stores’ vibrant atmospheres and working with and hiring people of all ages and backgrounds. She was confident and independent, had a strong and positive work ethic and was actually viewed by many as running the store.
Anne had a tremendous deep faith, a generous heart, and a happy soul, which she shared with everyone she met. She had a peaceful smile of love and delight and was a selfless and exceptional woman. Anne treasured and dearly loved her family, and was truly devoted to her husband Jay, her brother Frank Kelly, and to each and every family member. She was overjoyed to welcome her first grandson and first boy to the family and loved when her first two grandsons would spend summers at grandma’s house. When Anne and Jay moved to Fairfield, she was excited that she could spend even more time with her children, their husbands, and her grandchildren. She was an active spectator at her grandchildren’s sacraments, school events, track meets, rowing regattas, baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse and soccer games, concerts, and school masses. Anne always set an example of kindness and positivity to her grandchildren.
Anne’s survivors are her 5 daughters: Judy Mead and her husband Enrique Lasansky, of Phoenix, AZ, Gail Mead and her husband John Kiremidjian of Fairfield, Lorraine Mead and her husband William Daly of Garden City, NY, Jackie Steed and her husband Michael of Fairfield, Kara Mead and her husband Jose Walewski of Fairfield, 12 grandchildren, Albert Kraus and his wife Stephanie, Jay Kraus, Jake, Kelly, and Brian Kiremidjian, Liam Daly, Regan, Patrick, and Jack Steed, Anna, Joseph, and Thomas Walewski, 3 great grandchildren Olivia, Harper, and Will Kraus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be privately celebrated on Long Island with interment to follow in Queens, NY.
