Anthony Joseph Mattiolo, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 62 years to Marie G. Mattiolo, passed away suddenly on December 24, 2020, two days shy of his 92nd birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Mattiolo, he was a Fairfield resident since 1976. Anthony served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War specializing in Morse code. He was part owner of a furniture store creating the pieces they sold. A gifted craftsman, he could build or fix anything. He was the captain of his boat for over 70 years and proudly built his own Chris-Craft boat in his youth. He loved spending time with his family on Long Island Sound fishing, water skiing, and enjoying the peace of the water. He was a skilled bowler and enjoyed snow skiing. Model trains and airplanes were a passion of his. Earlier in his life Anthony belonged to a model plane flying group in Flatbush, NY where he would take his children to watch him fly the airplanes he built. There was never a home that Anthony lived in that didn't have at least one fish tank. He was a true dog lover; jokingly called the dog whisperer. Though he has not had a dog of his own in years, he lovingly took care of all his granddogs. He loved spending time in his garden with his roses and flowers and always looked forward to decorating his home and yard for Christmas. You may have seen him looking out his window to catch a glance at his bird feeder. Anthony was an avid reader and despite his impaired vision, he would enjoy relaxing listening to his audio books. But above all his interests, Anthony loved his wife, children and grandchildren and his greatest moments were when the whole family was together. In addition to his loving wife Marie, he will be sadly missed by three children, Joseph A. Mattiolo, Karen A. Maniscalco and her husband Vince and Keith J. Mattiolo; five cherished grandchildren, Amanda and James Maniscalco, Siena, Caden and Blake Mattiolo; sister-in-law Mildred DeMarco; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Badaracco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 2nd at 11:00 am at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date. Due to covid guidelines please contact Holy Family Church at 203-336-1835 to make a reservation to attend the Mass.
