Arlene Katherine Grogan, age 86, entered into eternal rest with her family by her side on Monday, January 27, 2025 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Helen (nee Zelko) and John Horvath and lived the vast majority of her life in Fairfield and her beloved Trumbull. Arlene enjoyed working throughout her life, with employment at Warnaco in Bridgeport, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and finally managing her husband’s dental practice in Fairfield. Her favorite job, however, was as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother - nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her family. Christmas Eve, Holy Saturday, and birthday celebrations were highlights for her when all the generations could gather and be together. Arlene enjoyed a full social life with a particular fondness for pinochle at the Trumbull Senior Center, summer concerts at the town hall green, cruising aboard the QE2, following the Royal Family, and dining at her favorite restaurant, Old Towne. A social butterfly, she enjoyed engaging and speaking with everyone she met. Arlene was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Joseph Grogan, her daughter, Deborah Ann Grogan, and her brother, James Horvath. She is survived by three children: Joseph (Michele) Grogan of Seymour, John (Elisia) Grogan of Fairfield, Moira (Brian) Roche of Newtown; her brother, John Horvath; 11 grandchildren, Joseph (Mary), Christopher (Marisa), Nathaniel, Kristine (Dan), Jessica (Guillermo), Joseph (Blaire), Caitlin (Corey), Mackenzie, Kayleigh, Ailish, Finn; her great granddaughter, Caroline Elena; and her loving companion and best friend, Steve Visosky. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for their care, support, and compassion during her final days. As a two time breast cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent’s Breast Health Center. Friends and family may pay tribute to Arlene beginning with a visitation Thursday, January 30th from 4-7 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
