Arthur Joseph Hedge, Jr.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Arthur J. Hedge Jr., of Southport, CT and New York City, NY, on December 29, 2023.  Born on September 19, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Mary and Arthur Hedge, Arthur was a cherished individual known for his deep commitment to family, his faith, and to helping others.

Art graduated from St. Peter’s College, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  He earned a Master of Science degree from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Arthur dedicated many years of his life to IBM, where he made significant contributions in marketing and management, including in his role as President of IBM Real Estate and Construction Division and Vice President of Environmental Affairs.  After leaving IBM he was President and CEO of Kroll Environmental Enterprises Inc. from 1993-97.  Later he was Chairman of Jannon Holdings and ABR Group, LLC.  His dedication to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his family and community.

Over the years, Mr. Hedge has been associated with a number of community activities, including organizations such as the United Way, Field Museum the Chicago Urban League, the Executive Committee of Urban Gateways, and the Chicago Crime Commission.  For seven years he served as Chairman of the Board of Regents of Fairfield College Preparatory School.  He was a member of the Visiting Committee, Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and the Advisory Board of the Wharton Real Estate Center. Art served as a member of the Board of Directors and past chairman of the Board of Trustees of White Plains Hospital Medical Center.  Mr. Hedge was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Council for the Arts in Westchester County and served as chairman of the Development Committee.  He was most proud of his work at New York Presbyterian Hospital; where he served on the Board of Trustees for over 30 years and was a Life Trustee.

Art is survived by his wife Julie and their sons, Arthur (Marissa) III, Peter (Misa) and Gregory (Christen).  Together with his wife Julie they have 6 grandsons, Nicholas, Alexander, Sebastian, Colin, Kazuki, and Griffin.  He was predeceased by his sisters Mary (Herb) Culver and Elizabeth (Ron) Beck.  Arthur was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a man of deep faith.  He was an avid golfer and a member of The Connecticut Golf Club and Winged Foot Golf Club.

A wake will be held on Friday, January 5 from 4 to 8pm, and a funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6 at noon.  Both services will be held at the Chapel at St. Pius X church in Fairfield Ct.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X church or to the charity of your choice in Art’s name.

Art’s legacy will continue in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him.  He will be fondly remembered for the profound impact he had on all the many lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Art.  You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
