Arthur Williamson Mccain Jr.

Arthur Williamson McCain, Jr., of Easton CT, died peacefully on July 1, 2024. Born in New York City in 1934, Arthur Junior was a son of the late Arthur Williamson McCain and Marion Wilmer Vinsonhaler McCain, and had been a Fairfield County resident since 1973. He spent most of his youth in Scarsdale, NY and was an honors graduate of The Choate School and Washington & Lee University and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. He served six years as an officer in the U.S. Army Artillery, achieving the rank of Captain. Retired in 1996, he spent the majority of his career at General Electric, most recently as comptroller with GE Investment Corp. A resident of Fairfield for 50 years, he spent many years as a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts, was a reader for the Bridgeport School Volunteers and comptroller for Operation Hope. An active and devout member of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, he was a volunteer treasurer for over 25 years. He also served on several boards, taught in the church school, led summer services, wrote devotional pieces and sang in the choir. An avid tennis player, he was a member of the Fairfield Beach Club and played until he was 89. He never did find a backhand. Ever the philosopher, he was quick witted with an abiding sense of humor. He loved to read and took great pleasure in reading some of the classics to his grandchildren. Music was a daily necessity, whether it be the church choir, listening to classical tunes at home, or singing old army songs in the car with his grandchildren. Art was predeceased by Margaret McCain (Peggy), his wife of 65 years, two sisters Mary Wrenetta McCain and Frances Maury of Memphis, TN. He and Peggy had two sons and a daughter: Drs. Robert and Kristina McCain of Reno, NV; Scott and Kristen McCain of Easton, CT; and Elizabeth McCain Quesada and her husband, Renwick, of Stamford, CT. They have seven grandchildren, Taylor McCain and his wife Emily; Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth McCain, Justin Mucelli, Kyle Quinn-Quesada and his wife Elizabeth, and Colin Quinn- Quesada, and one great grandson Jack Quinn-Quesada along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service and interment in the Memorial Garden will take place at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield on September 14th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Choir of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Rd., Fairfield, CT. 06824, or to the charity of one's choice.
