Arthur Thomas

Arthur Thomas was born in Jamestown, N.Y. in 1923 and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1941.  He was a World War II veteran serving with the 96th Infantry Combat Division, from 1943 to 1946, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.  He earned two battle stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

After the war Mr. Thomas attended Washington University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.  From 1950 to 1971 he worked for Moloney Electric Co. in St. Louis, MO. serving ultimately as manager of electrical design.  During that period, among his professional affiliations, Mr. Thomas was a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Pi Mu Epsilon honor societies, a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and a licensed professional engineer.  He was a member of the American National Standards Institute and was the author and presenter of several technical papers on transformers.  In 1972 he became the sales manager of the northeast region for Central Moloney Electric, a division of Colt Industries.  He served as sales manager until 1988 when he retired, making his home in Fairfield, CT.

A Prostate cancer survivor, Mr. Thomas was a core member of the Southport Cancer Support Group and of the Prostate Cancer Buddy Network.  He served on the advisory board of the Prostate Cancer Institute.

His wife of 63 years, Wilma Jane Thomas, preceded him in death in 2012.  Survivors include daughters Cynthia Guerin and her husband Robert from Wickenburg, Arizona and Suzanne Broughton and her husband Jack from Wallingford, CT.  Two granddaughters include Katherine Daigle and her husband Benedict from Cromwell, CT and Rebecca Fusco and her husband James from Wallingford, CT.  Arthur was a proud great grandfather of Nathan Joseph Daigle, Ella Grace Daigle, Jonathan Thomas Fusco, and Angelina Rose Fusco.  Also included are two nephews, Kenneth Thomas of Old Greenwich, CT and Theodore Thomas of Washington Crossing, PA.

A Memorial Service will be held at Fairfield Grace Methodist Church, where Mr. Thomas was a member, on June 3, 2023 at 11:00 am.   Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Jamestown, NY at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Swim Across the Sound”, St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606.  Arrangements are by the Spear Funeral Home, Fairfield.
