Barbara Jeanne Cofield

Barbara Jeanne (Dillon) Cofield, born December 30, 1935 to Lula and Thomas Dillon in Washington, Indiana. She was a graduate of Washington High School and Indiana University where she became a member of Chi Omega. With advanced studies at University of Maryland and Southern Connecticut, she was a Speech Pathologist with Montgomery County Public Schools Maryland, and retired from Fairfield Public Schools after 20 years there.Highlights of her life include several years in Australia and Maryland where lifelong friendships were made. She had a deep love of family, and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fairfield for over 40 years. An avid swimmer and walker, she also enjoyed working out at GE's Health & Fitness Center. The beloved wife of George S. Cofield for 59 years, she is survived by son George S. Cofield II, his wife Wende Watson Cofield, daughter Gwyn Gartsu, her husband Greg Gartsu, grandchildren Taryn, Megan & Caitlin Cofield; Katy, Nick & John Gartsu, and a great grandson Jameson Gysel. Also surviving are her brother Thomas Dillon and wife Jenny, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased are her parents and brothers Ray, Harold, and Carrol Dillon, and a sister Evelyn Marie Dillon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10:30 AM meeting DIRECTLY at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Rd., Fairfield, CT with interment to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 5-8 PM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Rd., Fairfield. Memorial contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to the ALS Association, MAC Angels, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Masonicare Hospice.
