Barbara Joan Scalo

Barbara Joan (Hyde) Scalo, 82, of Easton, CT passed away at home on July 29, 2017. Born in Providence, RI on August 8, 1934, to Arthur and Grace (Wright) Hyde, Barbara was raised and grew up in Lincoln, RI surrounded by her extended family. At an early age she showed artistic talent and went on to win multiple state and national art prizes. After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design she moved to Boston to work as a graphic designer, and while living there met her future husband, Richard Scalo. The couple relocated to Connecticut where they worked and raised their two children. In addition to being a wife and mother, Barbara was a professional artist, a Museum Docent, a Cub Scout Den Mother and donated her time and talents to various charities. She was a long time member of Bethany Congregational Church.

Her warmth, kindness and humor will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Atty. Richard S. Scalo of Easton, CT, her daughter Lynne Scalo of Westport, CT and her son Steven Scalo of Mashpee, MA.

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Southport Congregational Church Chapel, 524 Pequot Avenue, Southport. Interment will be held immediately following the service in the Southport Congregational Church Memorial Garden. Friends may greet the family Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
