Barbara Boothby Wendt passed away peacefully at the age of 102 in her Westport home on December 14, 2024.
Barbara was born in Auburn, Maine on November 12, 1922 to Richard P. Boothby and Pauline Jameson Boothby. Barbara attended Bates College and then went on to graduate from Oberlin College where she met her husband and life-long mate, Frank Wendt.
The newlyweds settled for a number of years in Port Washington, New York and later moved to Connecticut; initially living in Darian, then in Southport, and eventually moving to Westport in their later years. Barbara and Frank’s enthusiasm for antiques was reflected in the colonial era home they purchased and furnished in Southport. They also maintained an apartment on the upper east side of Manhattan and a number of summer homes over the years in Maine, where they enjoyed annual family gatherings.
Barbara is survived by her niece, Barbara Boothby Perry and three nephews; Richard P. Boothby III, James C. Boothby and David C. Boothby – the children of her late brother, Richard P Boothby Jr.––and also by her much-loved godson, Weems (Ted) Estelle.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held at the Southport Congregational Church in Southport, CT on Saturday, March 15 at 3:00 PM.
