Broni M. Friedland, age 97 of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Herman Friedland, passed away peacefully Saturday June 20, 2015 at Shady Knolls in Seymour two days shy of her 98th birthday. Born in New York City, the daughter of the late Stanley and Frances Obuszynski, she lived in Stratford prior to moving to Fairfield in 1944. A dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Friedland also enjoyed performing part-time marketing research. She loved competitive activities throughout her life. She was an avid bowler, bowling in two leagues late into her 80's, loved to play scrabble and pinochle and was an accomplished swimmer and excelled in the side stroke. She and her husband enjoyed going on cruises and dancing together. Mrs. Friedland loved animals of all kinds, especially her beloved cats, and she proudly rescued many animals throughout her life. She loved flowers particularly Peonies. Personable and outgoing, she enjoyed socializing with her friends and neighbors, but above all else delighted in time spent with her family whom she loved so much. She was active in the Fairfield Seniors where she met many friends. Those who had the privilege to meet her were captivated by her piercing and beautiful blue eyes. Survivors include three beloved children, Philip Friedland and his wife Dorothy of Green Valley, AZ, Robert Friedland and his wife Louise of Sunapee, NH and Nancy McGuire of Bridgeport; a sister, Lillian Guerin of Peekskill, NY; five grandchildren, Stephen, Keith, Eric, Gregory and Amy; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Alisa, Noah, Billie and Austin; and several nieces. In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by a grandson, Bryan McGuire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Rd., Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
