Carole Hamilla, born on September 16, 1927, in South Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home in Fairfield on December 6, 2024, at the age of 97. She was the cherished daughter of Philip M. and Carmela (D’Arinzo) D’Alessio.
After graduating from Norwalk High School, Carole began her career at the Hat Corporation of America. It was during this time that she met George Hamilla, the love of her life, at the iconic Ritz Ballroom. Their marriage spanned 57 wonderful years and was a testament to their enduring love and devotion. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Fairfield, where they raised their family. George predeceased Carole, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories.
Carole’s life was filled with simple joys and heartfelt traditions. She often reminisced about Sunday dinners at Calf Pasture Beach with her family and had a lifelong fondness for convertible cars, which she drove with enthusiasm and flair. A talented baker, Carole was renowned for her cream puffs and cheesecake, which became beloved staples at family gatherings. In retirement, she and George found joy in dancing together at the South Norwalk Boat Club, a reflection of their shared passions and vibrant spirit.
Carole is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah Nemeth of Milford and Barbara Azpiri (Luis) of Bridgeport; her grandchildren, Kimberly Kanoff (Bob) of Milford and Ryan Nemeth (Kelly) of Milford; and her sister, Barbara Prodan of Shelton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held her dear. In addition to her husband George, she was predeceased by her brothers Andrew D’Alessio and Vincent D’Alessio and her sister Celeste Williamson.
The family held private funeral services with entombment at the mausoleum at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Special thanks are extended to caregivers Mary and Maia for their devoted care and to daughter Barbara for the continuous support she provided to Mom during her journey.
May Carole’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mom—you are deeply loved.
