Catherine A. Dundon

Catherine A. Crowley Dundon , age 84, of Fairfield, beloved wife of John (Jack) Dundon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, the daughter of the late Michael and Norah Crowley, she had moved to Bridgeport's South End as a baby. Cathy was graduate of Bassick High School where she excelled at sports. She was employed by SNET for 14 years as an operator, where many memories were made and lifelong friendships began. This is where she met her husband Jack. She was a long-time parishioner of Holy Family Church where she was active in numerous events of the parish. She was president of the Women's Guild and she shared coaching duties for the Holy Family School girls' 7th and 8th grade basketball and softball teams for ten years with her sister Marge as well as being Gym Teachers. Cathy loved sports of all kinds. She was a member of the Ladies' 18 Hole Club at H.R. Smith Richardson Golf Course where she served as President and was on the Connecticut Golf Commission for 5 years. She loved playing golf with her husband, her sister and brother-in-law. The most important things in her life were her family and friends. She cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their activities and events; she loved traveling, family gatherings, Friday nights at the movies and the Irish Club, telling funny stories and being the life of the party. A lover of life, Cathy's positive outlook enabled her to enjoy life to the fullest and meet any challenge with determination and a smile, as evidenced in her being a breast cancer survivor. Cathy's glass was always half full and will be remembered most for the pleasure she got from making others laugh. Cathy is survived by her devoted husband, Jack, of 59 years, her children, Robert Dundon and his wife Lisa of Monroe, and Kathleen Dundon Barreira and her children Courtney, Brenton and Kyra of Monroe. Two sisters, Margaret Chopskie of Fairfield and Eileen Crowley of Fairfield; niece, Alicia Smith and her husband David of Shelton, nephew, Scott Chopskie and his wife Jennifer of Trumbull, nephew Gregg Chopskie and his wife Tina of Monroe; a dear lifelong friend, Barbara Hannon. She was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Bette Thibodeau and a special brother-in-law, Jerry Chopskie. A Mass in honor of her life will be celebrated Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Church, Fairfield. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 pm in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
