Charles A. (Charlie) Capalbo, age 23, of Fairfield, loving and cherished son of Anthony and Jennifer Capalbo, passed away peacefully at Boston Children’s Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 following a courageous and inspirational five-year battle with cancer. Born at Norwalk Hospital, Charlie was a lifelong Fairfield resident. Charlie attended Sherman School, St. Thomas School, Tomlinson Middle School, Notre Dame Fairfield High School, graduated from Fairfield Ludlowe High School, and completed his freshman year at Fairfield University while in remission. Charlie’s life centered on hockey. He was a goaltender for Notre Dame Fairfield and Fairfield Co-op and also played for the Darien Youth Hockey Association. Charlie was proud to have been coached by and worked for renowned NHL goaltender coach, Mitch Korn. Charlie also coached and refereed hockey and enjoyed mentoring for the STORM Special Hockey program. In addition to his loving parents, Charlie will be greatly missed by his brother, Will Capalbo; his beloved girlfriend, Peyton Siegel, maternal grandparents, Ina Chadwick and her husband Dr. Richard Epstein of Westport and Janis Wilde of Maryland; aunts and uncles: Rebecca Jarit and her husband, Paddy of Trumbull, Nina Wilde of Philadelphia, PA, Keith Wilde of MD, Lisa Floros and her husband, Michael of Newtown, Toni Capalbo and her husband Carlos Collazo of Old Greenwich and cousins Zachary, Shaina, Harrison, Emily, Thomas, Cece, and Gabby, as well as countless dear friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Tony and Lucy Capalbo and maternal grandfather, James Wilde. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. The Mass will also be available via livestream at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/3349099778. Burial will be private. A wake for family and friends will be held Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Penfield Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield. Please note that all floral deliveries are to be delivered directly to Penfield Pavilion. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Charlie Capalbo to support pediatric leukemia research in Dr. Scott Armstrong’s lab.
