Charles M. Orlando, Jr., age 82, beloved husband of 53 years of Carol (Cole) Orlando, passed away peacefully Monday, November 27, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Nyack, NY the son of the late Charles and Concetta Orlando, he resided in Schenectady and Scotia, NY for many years and also resided in the Adirondacks, Sarasota, FL and summered in Fairfield. Mr. Orlando graduated from Nyack High School, Fordham University and received a PhD in Organic Chemistry from New York University at the age of 25. He was employed by General Electric for 32 years in research and development. He was a member of the G.E. Elfin Society and the American Chemical Society. A devout Roman Catholic, Charles was always active in the parishes where he lived whether serving as Eucharistic Minister or in other groups such as Christ Renews at Our Lady of the Angels in Bradenton, FL, and Retorno at St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady. He was a 1st Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Orlando enjoyed playing golf and cross country skiing. Above all else, Charles delighted in time spent with his large and extended family and circle of friends who adored him. Survivors in addition to his loving wife, Carol, include three beloved children, Laurie J. Orlando and her husband Stuart M. Ginsburg of Fairfield, Christine L. Orlando and her husband Joe Budd of Fairfield and Charles M. Orlando, III and his wife Laurie Woodworth Orlando of Syracuse; seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew S. Ginsburg, Wendy Macomber, Leo C. Orlando, Emma L. Budd, Grace C. Budd, Kayla Douglas and Alex Padula; seven cherished great-grandchildren, Sophia, Nathan, Cole, Finn, Kinley, Blake and Jack; a sister, Carol Senatore and her husband Lou of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Albert J. Orlando and his wife Dianne of Greenwich; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur C. Orlando. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
