Charlotte Gilbert

Charlotte Gilbert, age 91, died peacefully at Griffin Hospital on March 23, 2014. She had most recently been a resident of Wesley Heights in Shelton, Connecticut, having previously lived in Trumbull. Charlotte was born in New York City, the only child of Flora and Harry Beck. She spent her early years in Westwood, New Jersey and later moved back to New York City where she graduated from Hunter College High School. Charlotte became a registered nurse having trained at Englewood Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey and Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. During the last year of World War II Charlotte served as a U.S. Army nurse in India. She then moved to Connecticut after marrying L. Kenneth Gilbert of Bridgeport and lived in Trumbull for thirty years. Charlotte continued her nursing career principally at Bridgeport Hospital and later worked for the Trumbull Public Health Department. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth and her son, Mark Gilbert. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and William Gray of Cushing, Maine; and her son and daughter-in-law, J. Gary and Sally Gilbert of North Kingstown, Rhode Island as well as five grandchildren. There will be a time of rememberance and visitation at Wesley Heights on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Charlotte's memory to: Wesley Heights, 580 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
