Cynthia Ethel Weiss

Cynthia Ethel Weiss, age 81, of Milford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at home following a long illness. She was the wife of Charles G. Weiss, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Norwalk, the daughter of the late E. Milton and Ethel T. Bruchac, she had been a Milford resident for many years. Mrs. Weiss received her Nursing degree from Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She was a hospital nurse, as well as a school nurse, in NY, NJ and CT. For more than 10 years, she was a clinical instructor of LPN's at Connecticut Business Institute and Norwalk Technical College, where she was honored by the state of Connecticut for her work. A woman of great faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, Cynthia was a life-long active member of Grace Baptist Church in Milford, and Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, where she loved to serve as a respected choir member and soloist, Children's Program Director, Vacation Bible School teacher, and Pioneer Girls leader. Another great joy for her was singing in the Milford Senior Center Gospel choir for 10 years. Cynthia also devoted her time to community programs. She was a section leader and speaker for La Leche League (new mother counseling) for over 10 years. She volunteered 13 years of service at the Audubon Coastal Center in Milford. She was a long time member of Connecticut's "Harmony on the Sound" musicals, and participated in several other stage productions, including her portrayal of "Mother Superior" in Fairfield County's the "Sound of Music". Additionally, her compassionate nature compelled her to volunteer for a medical mission in Haiti, in1994, providing nursing care to families in need. She enjoyed photography and scrapbooking, and loved traveling to many places in the U.S., Europe and Israel. Her greatest delight, however, was time spent with her large and loving family. Cynthia will be lovingly remembered as a beloved and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Predeceased by her son, Kevin Weiss, Cynthia is survived by 6 beloved children, Kimberly Rotondi of Kinnelon, NJ, Paula Gallay of San Jose, CA, Susanna Sammis of Stratford, Linda Jordan of Milford, Randy Weiss of Chapel Hill, NC, and Christopher Weiss of Easton; a sister, Pamela Tebo of West Chester, PA; a brother, Bruce Bruchac of Norwalk; and 14 cherished grandchildren. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Saturday, November 19th, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield. A private burial will be held in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to "David & Janet Kimball" Emmanuel Gospel Center, 2 San Juan Street, PO Box 180245, Boston MA, 02118-0994, or Evangelical Orphanage in Ramallah, Palestine, addressed to the Emmanuel Sisters, Evangelical Homes for Children, Inc. c/o AFED, PO Box 2040, Orange CA, 92859.
