David Bruce Lyons, 67, formerly of Hurt, VA and most recently of Monroe, CT died Sunday, June 3, 2018 from complications of cancer. He was born November 6, 1950, in Baltimore MD, a son of Rowland Dean Lyons and Elaine Modahl Lyons. He is predeceased by his son Jonathan Lyons, a brother, Richard Lyons and his parents, Dean and Elaine Lyons. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves and was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was an avid photographer who was able to see beauty in the ordinary and an accomplished musician who sang in his church choir. David was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed opportunities to mentor others. His other hobbies included being outdoors, home improvements, reading, target shooting, riding his motorcycle and traveling. He was a loving father, devoted husband and was able to use humor to lighten any mood. His use of "Dad jokes" and puns was legendary and he always went out of his way to help and encourage others, taking time to make people laugh and smile. David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Lyons, his daughter Jessica Peterson, and her husband Keith Peterson; two brothers, Warren and Randy Lyons; a sister Martha Seay; his son's fiancé, Kim Kelly; nieces and nephews; four cats and numerous family friends. He will be missed by all and cherished for his humanity. The family will hold a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. on July 21, 2018 at Fort Avenue Church of Christ, 1132 Sandusky Dr., Lynchburg.
