David T. Poore passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 17, 2016. David was born on September 2, 1924 to Sarah and Simon Poore on Fisher's Island, New York. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth, and son, David. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Poore, Kathleen and Lee Narwold, Mary and Paul Vimini, and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Narwold, Ryan Narwold, Gregory Poore and Sarah Vimini. Upon Stamford High School graduation, David enlisted in the United States Army in World War II serving as an Automatic Rifleman and Marksman in the 3rd Division 7th Infantry Regiment in North Africa, Tunisia and the amphibious landing in Anzio, Italy. Humble but proud to share, David was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Battle Star Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations Medal and a Good Conduct Medal for his heroism and service. David was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and the Columbia School of Business. He worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation until retirement and was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans. David was a kind hearted, fun loving gentleman to the core. A man of honesty and integrity, he leaves behind a legacy so grand that part of him will forever present themselves to all those whose lives he touched. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 10 AM meeting DIRECTLY at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Dr., Fairfield, burial will be private. Friends may call Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Rd., Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at www.givetoynhh.org: Honor Someone Special. The Poore family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from family, friends and his Smilow Cancer Hospital team, most especially Dr. Patrick Kenney, Dr. Hari Deshpande, and his devoted nurses and PCA's from North Pavilion 12.
