David F. Souza

David F. Souza passed away at home on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in the loving care of his wife Joyce, and grandson James.  He was born in Fall River, MA on June 6, 1936.   He proudly served in the US Army before marrying Joyce in 1961 and settling in Fairfield CT to raise their family.  He retired as Director of Research from Superior Plating Company in Southport where he worked for most of his career. David and Joyce recently marked their 61st wedding anniversary on January 10th of this year.

David was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather with many interests. He loved ballroom dancing with his wife where they would grace the floor with their moves while teaching others how to dance.  Long Island Sound was home for boating fun with water skiing, fishing and clamming.  On nice days, he liked to ride his Harley motorcycles or drive his Corvette on the winding roads near home.  In the cold winter months he was busy starting seedlings for his amazing vegetable garden that he planted and tended along with his fruit trees and bushes.  His many other talents included restoring cars and fixing just about anything.  He was known as “Grandpa” to many, whether related or not, and will be missed by all that knew him.

Along with his beloved wife Joyce, he is survived by his daughters Deborah (Daniel) Wolfram of East Hampton,  Deidre (Peter) Tutka of Shelton,  son David J. of Fairfield, grandchildren Michael (Katie) Cavalli, James Souza, Jackie Souza, Emma Wolfram, Ava Demas, Alex Tutka and great-granddaughter Anna Leah Pasternak.  He is also survived by three loving siblings, Lorraine Hall (FL) Hilda Hargrove (FL), and Dimas (Pat) Souza (Beacon Falls, CT) of the original “Souza 12” children of the late John and Senhorinha Souza, along with many niece and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son David “Scotty” Souza, who served in the Marines, and his kind and beautiful granddaughter, Viviana Cavalli. He will join his remaining “Souza 12” brothers and sisters already in heaven, Isabel Medeiros, Joseph Souza, Antonio Souza, Alvaro Souza, Yria Szczesny, Mary Meeks, Frank Souza and John Souza Jr.

The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to David’s caregivers, Hospice and everyone who held him in their thoughts and prayers.
