Delphine Virginia Lasley

Delphine Virginia Lasley was born Delphine (Del) Snarski on October 8, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. She lived in many places in her life, including San Diego, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Shreveport, Louisiana; Atlanta, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; Villa Hills, Kentucky; Wylie, Texas; and Fairfield, Connecticut.

She was a wonderful mother to five children, grandmother to eight, and great-grandmother to twelve. She loved to cook and bake for her family. No one could do scrambled eggs like hers. She loved Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Reds, and Christmas. From April through October you could find her watching the Reds and her favorite first baseman Joey Votto, and in November and December the television was turned to the Hallmark Christmas Channel.

She was an amazing bowler into her 70s, and golfed when she was younger. She played bridge and pinochle, and could beat anyone at Scrabble, Dominos, or Yahtzee, and knew the rules to just about every card and board game invented before 1975.

Her children are convinced to this day that she had eyes in the back of her head, and that she was the leader of one of the largest Mom spy rings in the Forest Park/Greenhills area of Cincinnati from 1965-1982. She had the uncanny ability to ferret out the truth from any of her four daughters and one son, and later, her grandchildren.

She could paint, wallpaper, upholster, decorate, and even make beautiful ceramic pieces. She was the consummate hostess with all the requisite serving platters, silver pieces, table linens, and specialty pieces like coffee carafes, nut dishes, china and crystal. She had the ability to sew anything and outfitted her children well into their teenage years, sometimes to their chagrin. She was talented with a crochet hook, and if you were lucky, you received one of her afghans. One of her children even received crocheted shorts. This was a fashion faux pas, which she rarely made, as she loved clothes and shopping, and was always beautifully dressed.

She was the owner of the most storage units over a three-state area. (See love of shopping, above.)

She worked as an administrative assistant and in the hospitality industry and was always loved by her co-workers. People flocked to her warm sense of humor and she befriended several expatriates who were long-term residents at the Marriot Residence Inn in the 1980s. That began a fascination with Indian food, history and culture. She was given a sari by her friends, which she treasured.

She cherished her Catholic faith. She never missed mass until she couldn't leave home anymore, loved the Blessed Mother and the rosary, sang in her church choir, taught CCD classes, volunteered at her children's Catholic schools, and made sure that her children showed the proper respect for the church. That included making one daughter write 1,000 times, "Our pope is Pope Paul the Sixth," when she couldn't come up with his name fast enough to suit her.

She was always on the lookout for her sister and brothers, her kids, her grandkids, her great-grandkids, and their wellbeing. She said what she thought, whether you wanted to hear it or not. She was there for friends and family whenever they needed her. She loved her many dogs over her life, beginning with Scrappy and ending with Angel. She was funny, and kind, and fierce in the defense of anyone she loved.

She was independent. After her marriage ended, she took care of herself. She never leaned when she could prop someone up. She leaves as her legacy a large family, who knew without a shadow of a doubt that they could count on her, no matter what. The world was a better place with her in it.
