Donald J. Fields

Donald J. Fields, age 75 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital with his loving wife Gay at his side Wednesday, December 15, 2021.  Born in Rutland, VT, the son of the late Leo and Mary Fields, he had been a Fairfield area resident for over 65 years.  Don graduated from St. Charles Parochial Grammar School, Notre Dame High School, Fairfield University and received his Masters degree in Social Work from Adelphi University.  He worked as a social worker at Long Island Jewish Hospital, Brian McMahon High School and Norwalk High School, and in private practice. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church where he volunteered as a Catechist.  Don played high school football and enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf.  He was an enthusiastic golfer who encouraged many to take up the game.  Don maintained many friendships, some as long as 60 years.  He looked forward to buddy dinners and buddy golf trips to Cape Cod.  He enjoyed his annual trips to Martha’s Vineyard with Gay, and friends Joan and Richard.  Above all else, Don loved spending time with all his family and friends.  His infectious laugh, kindness and energy enriched the lives of all who knew.  In addition to Gay, his loving wife of 43 years, he will be sadly missed by his two cherished grandchildren, Briana and Gavin Fields; a sister, Catherine Jacek and her husband Henry of Ontario, Canada and nieces and nephews, Lisa, Annice, Michael, Christopher, Beth and Gerard.  He was predeceased by his son, Gregory Fields and his mother-in-law, Heta Wagenhals.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don’s memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
