Donald Dexter Rose, age 84, of Monroe, beloved husband of nearly 47 years of Peggy Ann McCulloch Lizak Rose, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital following a short illness. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Ralph and Alice (Grippen) Rose, he was raised in Black Rock and had been a Monroe resident for over 60 years. A graduate of Bassick High School, Donald served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne Divisions where he successfully completed 27 jumps and served in Lebanon. He achieved the rank of Sgt First Class. Donald served as a volunteer for the Stepney Fire Department for most of his life achieving Life Membership status and also served as Fire Marshall for the town of Monroe. He also was employed as a paid firefighter for the town of Easton, retiring in 1998 following 32 years of service. He was a model railroad enthusiast, enjoyed tinkering with models and amateur photography. In addition to his loving wife Peggy Ann, he will be sadly missed by three sons, Roderick Rose (Denise), Scott (Maurene) Rose and Donald Jose Hernandez; three step-children, Judy Beth Raine (Randy), David Lizak (Jackie) and Christine Grandfield; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Brison. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 2-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
