Dorothy Anne (Nordberg) Anderson, a loving mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother, a retired teacher and longtime resident of Fairfield, died Wednesday morning (Oct. 5, 2016) at Bridgeport Hospital after a short illness. She was 84. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Timothy Anderson and his wife, Donna, and a great granddaughter, Natalee, all of Towson, Md., and Jeffrey Anderson and his wife, Rachel, and their two sons, Luke and Patrick, of Fairfield. She is also survived by a brother, Harry N. Nordberg Jr., and his wife, Vera, of Gouverneur, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Anderson; a daughter, Jill Anne, and a brother, Robert Nordberg. Dorothy was born on Aug. 30, 1932 in Mansfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Harry and Anne Nordberg. She graduated from Mansfield High School and in 1954 earned a B.A. degree in education from State Teachers College at North Adams (now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts). She taught at Jane Ryan Elementary School in Trumbull for several years prior to raising her family. An active volunteer, Dorothy was a longtime member of the Scandinavian Club of Fairfield, serving as membership secretary; a former superintendent of Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield, a member of the Fairfield Housing Authority and the American Association of University Women. She was also an ombudsman for the State Department of Aging, visiting retirement communities on behalf of residents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Tpke., Fairfield. Family and friends may call on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at the Spear- Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
