Dorothy Squires Gardiner

Dorothy Squires Gardiner, affectionately known as Dottie, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 at the age of 75, in Stamford, Connecticut. Born on March 5, 1949 in New Milford, Connecticut, she was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Therese Squires, and sister of the late Ronald Squires.

Dottie graduated from New Milford High School in 1967, and later attended Peirce Junior College in Philadelphia.

Prior to moving to Darien, Connecticut in 1981 to raise her family, Dottie lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey. In Darien, she was an active member of Noroton Yacht Club for over 40 years, where she enjoyed sailing, tennis, volunteering, and socializing with friends and family. In 1997, Dottie was awarded the US Sailing Association Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal in recognition for her role in the lifesaving rescue of several sailors.

Dottie was the manager of the Boston based clothing store, Irresistibles, in New Canaan, Connecticut for over 25 years. Her natural sense of style, combined with her warm and infectious personality, touched the lives of countless customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. She was an avid tennis player and skier, and she dedicated hours of her time volunteering at her daughters’ schools, and with numerous organizations, including Children’s Aid of Darien and The Junior League.

Dottie’s remarkable personality and natural charisma allowed her to make friends wherever she went. Her infectious laugh and positive energy brightened the lives of everyone around her. Known as the life of the party, she had the gift of connecting with others, effortlessly engaging in conversations with anyone she met, no matter the topic. Her warmth and openness made everyone feel valued. And when it came to dancing, she had a talent for showing off her moves with unmatched enthusiasm!

Dottie cherished her time spent with family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Charlie) Reynolds of Southport, CT, and Jennie (Adam) Galaburda of Westport, CT, as well as her five treasured grandchildren: Julia and Chase Reynolds, and Ava, Sophie, and Emme Galaburda, who will forever remember their beloved “Gammie”. She also leaves behind her loving and devoted partner, Brent Fitteron, whose unwavering love, kindness, and support will always be remembered.

Dottie will be deeply missed, along with her zest for life, cheeky sense of humor, and contagious smile. Her spirit, however, will continue to inspire and uplift us all.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, at Noroton Yacht Club in Darien, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stand Up to Cancer
