Dorothy L. Parkes, age 93, formerly of Fairfield, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Marion Erdman, Dorothy was a native of CT, and she spent 45 years of her life in Fairfield, before moving to FL in 1997. Dorothy, a resident of Country Side Lakes in Port Orange, FL, was predeceased by her husband, Ed Parkes, the love of her life. She was born on August 14, 1923 and celebrated her 93rd birthday with her family of friends. She was a member of United Church of Christ in New Smyrna Beach, and First Church Congregational in Fairfield, the AARP & VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy loved people, she was an avid swimmer, and she and her husband enjoyed square dancing together, in past years. She enjoyed people spending quality time with her, taking rides on the beach, or just sitting on the beach. She enjoyed wheel chair rides in the park, sitting out in the sunshine and feeling the gentle breeze. Though she was legally blind & she had severe hearing loss, she enjoyed going to the movies, for the ambiance. Her talking books were a real blessing to her. Dorothy's favorite TV shows were "Lawrence Welk" and "Joel Olsteen". Her favorite desserts were "Chocolate Anything", though she favored Milk Shakes & Ice Cream. Her chuckles warmed your heart. She left behind a legacy, she lived her dreams and left footprints in the lives of all who knew her. Dorothy, we love you and thank you for the treasured memories you left behind. You have a new life in Christ, that knows no pain; a new body, where you can see, hear & walk again. What a blessed reward for a life well-lived! She is survived by Ed's four nieces, Susan Biel of Seminole, FL, Bonnie Meyer of New York, Joyce Biscoe and Patricia Moore both of Connecticut; and a nephew Mark Pemburn of Maryland. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield with the Rev. David Spollett officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Dorothy's body will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ed Parkes in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
