Douglass Walter Chandler

Douglass Walter Chandler, age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Margaret (Peggy) Connolly Chandler for 53 years, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Anson, Maine, the son of the late H. Burke and Edna (Hilton) Chandler, he graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy in 1963.  Doug served for 6 years in the Air National Guard of New York as a Medical Services Specialist attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, and he enjoyed a long career working at Hoyt Street Pharmacy in Stamford, Weston Pharmacy, Achorn in Westport, and Lupe’s in Fairfield.  Doug enjoyed his early morning walks around Fairfield, engaging in conversation with everyone he met.  He and his wife Peggy introduced pickleball to the Bigelow Senior Center in Fairfield, where he had many friends.  He enjoyed gardening, drinking his morning coffee at South Pine Creek Beach, and following the stock market, especially when the market was up. In addition to his loving wife Peggy, he will be greatly missed by his three beloved children, Jennifer Kane and her husband Sean of Trumbull, Laura Miller and her husband Ritt of Trumbull, and Paul Chandler and his wife April of Sterling, VA. He loved spending time with his seven grandchildren - Jack, George, and Charlie Kane; Katelyn and Sophie Miller; and Grace and Annie Chandler - along with many nieces and nephews, including Dana Chandler and Liz Smith of Maine.  He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Arlene Chandler.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield.  The service will also be streamed online at www.stanthonyffld.org.
