Edith Naomi Huber Verdier died peacefully in Fairfield, Connecticut at age 92 after being in the presence of her loving family. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM at First Church Congregational in Fairfield, CT.
Edith was born In Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Christian Huber and Emma Brubaker Huber September 29, 1927. She graduated from West Lampeter High School in Lancaster, PA. In 1948 she went to work at a local company and married William Verdier in 1949 after meeting him at a dance upon his arrival home from WWII. They had four children (although the first, Edward died in infancy) after moving to Havertown, PA just west of Philadelphia. Edith took care of the kids while William (Bill) worked for Grumman and helped amongst other things to design the cabin for the lunar module that landed on the moon in 1969. The family was relocated to Fairfield, CT in 1969 due to a change in work for our father and the family still resides on Mill Plain Rd. Edith began work at First Church Congregational, as Church Secretary and worked there for 25 years, first under Rev. Richard Rush and then under Rev. David Spollett (whom she was directly responsible for hiring) and also concurrently in Sunday School and as Choir singer and volunteer worker at the Church Store from its inception until she was physically unable to participate.
She and William were devoted members of First Church Congregational and remained so in their later years. It was her life's devotion. Edith was always passionate about gardening, music and reading and was an inspiration to us all. And she had a natural gift of inspiring family and friends to honor and care deeply about these things as well. The lives of her children and grandchildren are greatly enriched by the intellect, discipline, energy, humor, and courage that she applied to all things in her life.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, William Verdier, two daughters Katherine Verdier and Susan Verdier Burnett (Jeff), her son William (Billy) Verdier, granddaughter Sarah Burnett and grandson Patrick Burnett, and his sisters Elizabeth Verdier Zellers (Emlen) and Marguerite Verdier Wettstein (Arnold)
