Edward John Erazmus, age 85, of Fairfield passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family including his beloved wife of 56 years Helen Stockwell Erazmus on Sunday, January 24, 2016. Born in Wallington, NJ the son of the late Frank and Katarzyna Erazmus, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 56 years. Edward served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954. Later, he began his lengthy career in the grocery business where he worked as a Manager for Food Fair/Pantry Pride and Stop & Shop. He was a member of the VFW Post in Wallington, NJ and a member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield. Edward and Helen loved to travel together. His favorite destinations included Las Vegas and Puerto Rico where they made numerous friends. He also enjoyed his frequent trips to Atlantic City and Mohegan Sun. Survivors in addition to his loving wife Helen include two beloved children, Edward Erazmus of Stratford and Catherine Erazmus-Yorke and her husband Paul of Milford; two cherished grandchildren, Kelly and Jack Erazmus; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers. Friends may greet the family Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
