Edward Michael Rickard

Edward Michael Rickard, 81, passed away on September 24, 2021.  Ed was a lifelong resident of Fairfield who attended St. Ann School, Avon Old Farms School, and LaSalle University. Ed was a member of the Fairfield Beach Club (1972), Cedar Point Yacht Club (1995), and Fayerweather Yacht Club (1975) serving as financial secretary, board member and flag officer.  Ed was an avid sailor continuing later in life as a Grandmaster and Great Grandmaster in the Laser fleet.  Ed also was a member of the J/24, Atlantic, and Vanguard 15 fleets. Ed was a year round sailor who braved the cold looking most forward to frostbiting in the “Hangover Bowl” an annual New Year’s day tradition at Cedar Point. Ed was the president of C. Rickard & Sons Inc. of Bridgeport which was founded by his grandfather, Christopher Rickard in 1871, and president of Rickard Storage and Rigging of Bridgeport which was founded by his father, James E. Rickard (Nora) in 1945. Ed was a licensed real estate broker (1971) and president of Rickard Realty Corp which he founded in 1973. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Stevens Rickard, and his three children, E. Michael (Alicia), Laura and Katherine, as well as his three granddaughters, Grace (19), Lydia (7) and Winifred(4).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 2, 2021 at noon at St Ann Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport. Masks are required for the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Ed’s honor to the Avon Old Farms School.
