Eileen Theresa (O'Meara) Blackall

Eileen T. Blackall, 95, of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at her home of 64 years, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 25, 1929, in Flagmount, County Clare, Ireland, the daughter of the late Margaret and Francis O’Meara, Eileen was a long-time active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield and a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

She had seven siblings, six of whom predeceased her, including Madge Delahanty, Beatrice Maloney-Jones, Mary Hickey, Annie Brown, Betty Conboy, and William O’Meara. She is survived by Dennis O’Meara of Ballinruan, County Clare, Ireland. Eileen immigrated to the United States, landing in New York City. It was there that she met her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph, who predeceased her.

Known for her quick wit and generous heart, Eileen was a longtime member of the Gaelic American Club where she enjoyed her favorite pastime- dancing to Irish music and talking with her many friends. Throughout her life she gave freely to those in need, be it preparing nightly dinners for an elderly neighbor, supporting a friend or family who had fallen on hard times, or simply listening to those who had experienced loss. In addition, she was also a loving foster parent for 38 Catholic Charities babies. Over the many years she served as a foster parent for those newborn babies, she never once complained about getting up for nighttime feedings. Like many things in her life, she gave without ever expecting anything in return.

Survivors include three beloved children, Kathleen Blackall of Fairfield, Eileen Gann and her husband John, of Mountain View, CA, and George Blackall and his wife, Colleen of Hershey, PA; five cherished grandchildren, E.J and Jess Gann, Emily Parrie (formerly Gann), Harry and Patrick Blackall and three great grandchildren; Beau and Autumn Gann and Grace Parrie.
