Eleanor F. Bruckmann, age 96, formerly of Fairfield and Guilford, beloved wife of 72 years of C. Robert (Bob) Bruckmann, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Springs at Watermark. Born in New York City, the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine McGarry, she had been a Fairfield resident for over 20 years prior to moving to Massachusetts. She and Bob also enjoyed spending time at their shoreline residence in Guilford. A devout Roman Catholic, Eleanor was a former parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. The highlight of her life was meeting Mother Teresa at Kennedy Airport where they engaged conversation and Mother Teresa presented her with Miraculous Medals to give to her family. Eleanor was a world class cook and baker. She loved toying with recipes always trying to make dishes more delectable. She always looked forward to baking her famous Christmas cookies. In addition to her loving husband, Bob, she will be sadly missed by her five beloved children, Barbara McCarthy and her husband Thomas of Fairfield, Anne French and her husband Glenn of Naugatuck, Joseph Bruckmann and his wife Gail of Shelton, Robert Bruckmann and his wife Anne of Salado, TX and Catherine Kallberg and her husband Don of Bethel; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter due to arrive in 2025. She was predeceased by her three sisters. A wake will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private at Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Eleanor may be made to Mother Teresa’s order the Missionaries of Charity Sisters at: missionariesofcharity.org or mcsisterskolkata@gmail.com (donation email).
