Elizabeth Holmes (Bovan) Tyler, age 57, beloved wife of John R. Tyler of Trumbull, passed away the evening of Wednesday, November 10, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born to William George and Mary Grace (Holmes) Bovan, Beth was raised and educated in Trumbull.
Beth graduated from Trumbull High School, class of 1982. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and played the baritone saxophone in the jazz band and the alto saxophone in the Golden Eagle marching band. Beth enjoyed playing cymbals in the marching band at the University of Connecticut, and graduated from UConn in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Relations. Beth worked as a buyer at Caldor, Inc in Norwalk, CT, and later as a buyer at Carter’s in Shelton, CT.
After graduating from UConn, Beth met the love of her life, John. The couple lived in Fairfield for several years before settling down to raise their family in Trumbull. Beth was devoted to her beloved children, Sarah and Ryan. She was a very active volunteer in the Trumbull schools, helping in the elementary school library, as a co-leader of her daughter’s Brownie troop, with the PTA, the Little League, the high school choir and theater programs. An accomplished musician, Beth played many different instruments and taught piano lessons. As her children grew older, Beth returned to work as an office manager at Von Ancken and Associates. She was also an active member at the Trumbull Congregational Church, volunteering and serving on their board. Beth enjoyed spending time with her family and cherished her many friends. She also loved the beach, particularly vacations spent at Dennis beaches in Cape Cod with her family.
In addition to her devoted husband, John R. Tyler, Beth is survived by her cherished children, Sarah and Ryan Tyler of Trumbull; her loving father, William G. Bovan of Trumbull; her adoring sisters, Suzanne Skolnick (Andrew) of Woodbridge, and Kathleen McKeon (Thomas) of Trumbull; her niece, Ally Skolnick of Woodbridge; her nephews, Jake Skolnick of Woodbridge, Gregory, Daniel and Benjamin McKeon of Trumbull; brother-in-laws, James Tyler of Lake Tahoe, CA, Gerald Tyler of Oxford, Gary Tyler of Wallingford; her mother-in-law, Janet Tyler and father-in-law, James Tyler of Norwalk; as well as an uncle, several aunts and many cousins. Beth was predeceased by her mother, Mary Grace Bovan.
Friends may greet the family on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 9am-12pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield, CT. A prayer service celebrating Beth’s life will conclude the visitation at noon.
