Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Macdonald) Crawford

Elizabeth (Betty) MacDonald Crawford of Fairfield, CT died peacefully on October 14th, 2022 with her daughter, Barbara Snyder by her side.  Betty was born in 1927 in Brisbane Australia to Angus Roy MacDonald and Mae Mahon MacDonald.  Betty met husband David Mackay Crawford, of Philadelphia, on the beach at Surfers' Paradise during WWII. He was a U.S. Navy officer serving in the Pacific and based in Queensland.  After the war, David proposed to Betty by Western Union telegram. They married and embarked on a new life together, first in Europe with the Marshall Plan and later settling in America. Betty was a first-class chef, a seamstress, an accomplished artist, a dog lover and an obsessive gardener. Dave and Betty were a true couple to all who knew them. David died in 2016 at the age of 100.  Betty’s last words were that she was with him.  She leaves behind four children, Thomas Crawford of Bedminster, New Jersey; David Mackay Crawford of Dallas, Texas; Barbara Crawford Snyder of Newtown, Connecticut; and Elizabeth Crawford Spencer of Darwin, Australia, as well as six loving grandchildren who knew her as “Grandmere.”

Services will be held privately for Betty.
