Eugene J. Richter, beloved husband of Nancy, was welcomed into heaven on Saturday, August 1st. Gene celebrated 54 loving years with Nancy and is survived by their five children, their spouses and grandchildren: Paul, his wife, Margaret, and their sons Matthew and Jack; Bob, his wife, Andrea, and their children Stephanie (and her husband Neil and new baby on the way) Bobby, Jamie, Abby and Elizabeth; Peter and his husband Tim; Stephen, his wife, Kim, and their children Jenna and Mia; Ann O'Leary, her husband, Jim, and their children Patrick, Erin, Bridget and Shannon. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Pauline Richter, and two brothers Edmond and Konrad. Gene cherished his family, and in his final moments, thanked God for the blessings of his family, friends and a good life. Gene grew up in Bridgeport, attended Harding High School and the University of Connecticut and was an ardent UConn Girls Basketball fan. He began his career in Real Estate for the Knight Agency and in 1958 founded Richter Real Estate. A self-made businessman, Gene was honored over the years for his dedication to his community and easy manner as he performed volunteer work for many local non-profits and Town committees. He was an active Rotarian having served as President of the Rotary Foundation and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Past President of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and received the Harold Harris Award for his contributions to the Town of Fairfield. He was Past President of the Fairfield Board of Realtors and served on the Board as Treasurer for the past 25 years. He enjoyed relaxing on the golf course at Brooklawn Country Club where he made many lifelong friends. A man of deep faith, he was a parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and active member of St. Pius X Church for over 50 years. His family will miss him deeply and are thankful for Dr. Richard Link, Dr. Glenn Reznikoff, his hospice nurse Tara Dolan, and the outpouring of support from so many. Calling hours will be at Spear Miller Funeral Home, South Benson Road, Fairfield on Tuesday August 4th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church 834 Brookside Drive Fairfield on Wednesday August 5th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
