Evangeline “Eva” Giambalvo was a kindhearted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family on June 12, 2024, at the age of 99.
Eva was born in 1924 in Jackson Heights, New York to Carmela and Vito Franco. She attended secretarial school and then went on to work at the Bank of Montreal in downtown Manhattan. Eva met her husband, James (Jim) Giambalvo, whom she married in February of 1960. The two moved to Westport, Connecticut in 1963, where they raised their two daughters: Lisa and Gina.
She was known for her exceptional cooking and could always be found in the kitchen wearing her favorite green apron. She prepared family favorites: eggplant parmesan, cheese cake, and chocolate fudge for holidays or on request from her grandchildren. Most importantly, Eva cherished every moment she could spend with Jim. Most mornings they would enjoy a cup of coffee together in bed followed by a long walk at Compo Beach.
Eva was recently predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Jim, and is survived by her daughters Lisa Russ (Patrick) of Atlanta, GA, and Gina Flynn (Jack) of Westport, CT. She was a delighted grandmother to four grandchildren: Erin Galdun (Patrick), Libby Russ, Kelley and Matthew Flynn, and a great-grandmother to Margot Galdun. Eva was also preceded in death by her parents, Carmela and Vito Franco, and brothers Joseph and Vincent Franco.
She will be so dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Church of the Assumption. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westport EMS in Eva’s memory.
