Francis J. Costello

Francis J. Costello peacefully passed away on March 11, 2021 at the Cambridge Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, surrounded by family members, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his children whom he adored; Denise (Costello) Pomroy (Dan) and David Costello of NYC. Fran is also survived by his ex-wife, Diane Costello of Stamford, as well as his nieces and nephews, all who loved him and laughed at his jokes and stories.   In addition to his parents, Frank and Loretta Costello, he was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Mary (Costello) Murphy, of Huntington.

Born in Bridgeport on April 27, 1936, Fran spent most of his years in Bridgeport and Huntington, in addition to his daily work commute to NYC. He attended Fairfield Prep, followed by Fairfield University. Fran served in the U.S. Army prior to enjoying a long and successful career working for the MetroNorth Railroad. He was known to be quick with a joke and a great story, always filled with humor and a smile. Fran loved to watch and cheer on the UConn basketball teams and was an avid tennis player. He liked to stay physically fit doing daily exercises and riding his bike, up until his final years. He was a loving and wonderful father, brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him, and he will be forever loved and missed. Fran was a man of faith; finding joy and pride in being a member and active volunteer at St. Patrick’s Church in Bridgeport. He was a true gentleman, and a man for others.

The family would like to thank Fran’s doctors and oncologists, the staff at Cambridge Rehab for their expertise and support, and Martha from Comfort Keepers for her loving care.
