Frederick W. Thomas, age 90, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 64 years to Martha-Anne (Sanwald) Thomas, passed away peacefully Monday, February 10, 2025 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late William Thomas and Gertrude Clark he had been a Fairfield resident for most of his life.
A graduate of Central High School, Mr. Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War reaching the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service he worked for W.S. Rockwell in Fairfield and then began a long career as a mason for the Town of Fairfield, Department of Public Works, retiring in 2006 following 35 years of service. Fred was a member of the Gaelic-American Club and a devout country music and NY Jets fan. He and his family enjoyed exploring wineries, especially in the Finger Lakes region. In addition to his loving wife, he will be sadly missed by two beloved sons, Christopher F. Thomas of Belleview, FL and Brian D. Thomas (Lisa Maloney) of Black Rock; 3 cherished grandchildren, Dallas, Amber and Emma; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Hadley, Harper and Hazel, a sister, Ann Thomas of Fairfield and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Thomas and Charles Clark.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Fred’s life Saturday, February 15th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. followed by military honors. Interment will be held privately.
The Thomas family would like to express their sincere thanks to staff at Bridges by EPOCH of Trumbull and Bridgeport Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Frederick and his family during his illness.
