Gustave A. Seaman

Gustave A. Seaman, age 88, dear husband of Julie Spano Kwasnik (predeceased) of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2019. Gus was a graduate of Bassick High School where he was a multi-sport star athlete, on the gridiron, the diamond and the hardwood. He remained local for college earning both a bachelor of science and a Masters degree from the University of Bridgeport (UB). While at UB, he continued his sports successes on the basketball court where he set and held numerous records, including the all-time career rebounder and as a member of the 1000-point club. Gus also served in the Chemical Corp of the U.S. Army; stationed in Sampigny, France. Not surprising, during his 3 years of services, he also toured Europe playing on the U.S. Army basketball team. Professionally, Gus spent his entire career at UB and during his over 45-year tenure, held the positions of Director of the Evening Division, Registrar, and V.P. of Purchasing. While at UB, Gus continued to contribute to its athletic program through his coaching of the UB men's basketball team. Honored and recognized for his commitment, loyalty, length of service to UB and athletic accomplishments, Gus was inducted into the UB Hall of Fame, Athletic Hall of Fame and Bridgeport Old Timers Athletic Association Hall of Fame. In addition to his UB affiliation, Gus was a lifelong member of St. Pius X Church, Fayerweather Yacht Club and Barber Shop Quartet. At home, one would always find him camped in "his chair" engrossed in watching a basketball or baseball game - especially UCONN and the Yankees or Mets. However, where Gus found the greatest joy was in spending time with his family. Gus and the love of his life Julie enjoyed traveling together and their travels regularly included Florida, Italy, Maine, Bermuda and California which Gus artfully captured through his camera lens. Born June 4, 1930 in Bridgeport, CT, Gus was the son of Gus and Jenny (Link) Seaman of Bridgeport, CT. Gus is survived by his son Mark L. Seaman and his wife Mariella of Norwalk, CT; his daughter Sandra Kwasnik Short and her husband Eugene Short of Southport, CT; his brother Robert Seaman and his wife Mary Jane of Trumbull, CT; his granddaughters Jennifer Ramirez and her husband James Ramirez, and Bridget Walker and her husband Jonathan Walker (predeceased); his loving and adored great grandchildren, Griffin and Scarlett Ramirez, and Ellery and William Walker; and many nieces and nephews. Gus is predeceased by his son Ronald B. Kwasnik of Fairfield, CT and his sister Nancy Quinn and brother Ronald Seaman. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Gus's kind and compassionate caregiver Addison Hadonu, the Brightstar group and the Hospice organization In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either The American Cancer Society in memory of his wife Julie and son Ron, or to The ALS Association in memory of Jonathan Walker, Gus' grandson-in-law.
