Dr. Harold Thomas Oesau Jr., was born on July 10, 1931, in Stratford, CT and died peacefully on February 22, 2025 in the home he loved with his children by his side. He was the beloved father of Michael and Timothy and husband to wife Connie (née Wells).
Mike, as he was known, was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He made a positive impact on the patients and families whose lives he bettered through his long career as a surgeon. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and generosity. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family expresses enormous gratitude to Marcia Richards, dad’s caregiver for the last years of his life. Marcia took extraordinary care of him and made it possible for him to stay in his home.
Mike is survived by his loving children, Michael and Timothy, daughter-in-law Janell, grandchildren Emmett and Maeve, Michael’s long time love Anne Cicale, sister-in-law Joan Wells and her family, and loving cat Spyke. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Connie, brother Terry, sister Annie, and nephew Mark.
Mike served honorably in the Korean War. He and Connie married in 1955. After his graduation from Jefferson medical school, Mike and Connie spent time in New York before moving to Fairfield, where they spent the remainder of their lives. There they had their two children. Mike went into the medical field out of a sincere desire to heal. He would often treat for free those who could not pay.
Outside of his work, Mike was a talented photographer, at times exhibiting his photographs. He and Connie lived an active lifestyle, playing tennis, skiing, and golfing. He loved his children and supported them in their endeavors and careers. He was happy to have reconnected with his Catholic faith and attended church regularly.
Those who knew Mike will remember him for his charm and generosity, his lifelong service of healing, and his love for his wife.
The service to honor the life of Dr. Harold “Mike” Oesau Jr. will be held on March 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a favorite charity of Mike’s.
Although Mike’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory and spirit live on, and may we carry forth his legacy of love, compassion, and generosity in all that we do. Mike is now reunited with his beloved wife Connie.
