Helen M. Galog, age 104 years and 6 months, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late James Galog, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. Born in New Rochelle, NY the daughter of the late Harry and Annie Skinner, she had been a Fairfield resident since 1931. Mrs. Galog was a nursery school teacher for over 28 years working at the First Church Congregational, Fairfield, and the Southport Congregational Church. She was a long-time member of First Church Congregational, Fairfield. Her two greatest joys in life were working with children and her travel adventures. She was a true outdoor enthusiast and avid swimmer and camper. The cherished memories of her family growing up include camping as far north as North Bay, Canada, and west to the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming. In later years she made the long trip to New Zealand 9 times to visit her oldest son and family which included 5 grandchildren there, and enjoyed many wonderful vacation trips in the U.S., Europe and to the islands throughout the Caribbean with her other son's family including 2 granddaughters. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who delighted in time spent with her family. Survivors include two beloved sons, James Harry Galog and his wife Mary of New Zealand, and Edwin P. Galog and his wife Jeanne of Fairfield; seven grandchildren, James, Stephen, Andrew and Donald Galog, Susan Hargus, Lara Curran and Chansey Luby; six great-grandchildren, Brendan, Luke, Larissa, Johnny, Cael and Randall; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mildred, Dorothy, Anna, Harry, Walter, and William. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Cambridge Manor for the excellent care they provided and for making Helen feel at home for the twelve years she lived there.
