Helen R. Lewis, age 95 of Wallingford, formerly of Southport, beloved wife of the late Fred Lewis, went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 11, 2016 at Masonicare of Wallingford. Born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Frederick and Wilhelmina Roll, she had been a Southport resident since 1949. Mrs. Lewis attended Katherine Gibbs School. Later in her life she served as recording secretary for the Fairfield Board of Zoning Appeals. A devout Christian, she was an active long-time member of Black Rock Congregational Church where she participated in the Women's Bible Study, was a member of the Young at Heart Group, and for 30 years volunteered with her husband, Fred counting the weekly offering. Mrs. Lewis was an active member of the Southport Women's Club, holding the offices of President, Vice President and Secretary. She was one of the driving forces of the establishment and stocking of the library at the Pequot School in Southport. In her spare time Helen enjoyed crochet, needle point and counter cross stitching, winning numerous awards in state competitions. Survivors include two beloved sons, Howard W. Lewis of Washington and Gordon Lewis of Oregon; and two grandchildren, Michael Lewis of Westport and Kimberly Epperson of Hamden. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Lewis. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gathering Room at Black Rock Congregational Church 3685 Black Rock Tpke., Fairfield with the Rev.
