Helen Foster Watkins of Fairfield, CT, daughter of the late Ruth T. and John W. Foster of Greens Farms, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017. She was born in Newton, MA and had been an area resident since 1941. Helen was a graduate of Rosemary Hall and the Franklin School of Professional Art. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport for over 70 years, serving as Sunday School teacher, on the Vestry, the Altar Guild and as President of the Episcopal Church Women and volunteered in the church office. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years.
Helen was for some years on the board of the Fairfield Visiting Nurse Association, serving two years as President. Later she was a Hospice volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Service of Connecticut.
Helen was a member of the Pequot Yacht Club, the Fairfield Beach Club and the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County. An amateur artist, she exhibited her watercolors locally and at the Southern Vermont Art Gallery where she was a member for many years. She was an enthusiastic golfer, gardener, sailor and traveler. In her earlier years she also enjoyed tennis and skiing.
She is survived by her husband, William, their children Nancy Lanzoni and her husband, Craig, John Watkins and his wife, Ann and five grandsons- Benjamin and William Lanzoni and John, Tom and David Watkins-all of whom she loved dearly.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Southport on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Church Memorial Fund, C/O Trinity Church, P.O.
