Henry Miller Bonner Sr., age 95 of Southport, CT and beloved husband of the late Anne Barrows Bonner, passed away peacefully in his residence Sunday, December 10, 2017. Born in New York City the son of the late David Bonner Jr. and Marion Miller Bonner, he maintained his Southport home since the late 1960s. He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy Class of 1940 and Princeton University Class of 1944 and served in the Seventh Regiment New York State Guard during World War II. He began his career during the war as an engineer for Eastman Kodak where he was instrumental in Kodak's top secret radio proximity fuse program. After the war he worked as a securities and mining analyst for Chase Manhattan Bank and began a long career in investment management. Mr. Bonner was an accomplished sailor and proudly sailed across the Atlantic twice, first captaining Maud S., a 34 foot cutter, then Benine, a 42 foot ketch, each time departing from Southport Harbor. He was an ardent traveler and passionate international skier into his 80s. He was a member of the Pequot Yacht Club, Fairfield County Hunt Club, New York Yacht Club, Union Club, Downtown Association, Creek Club and Lake Placid Club. Mr. Bonner was an avid hiker and skier who enjoyed spending time at his family home in Lake Placid. He served as president of the Lake Placid Education Foundation, a board member of the Foundation for Economic Education and a longtime supporter of the Committee for Monetary Research and Education. Survivors include four sons: David S. Bonner and his wife Ellen and their daughters, Grace and Anne Bonner of Meriden, NH and Culver, IN; Henry M. Bonner Jr. of Southport and his children, Henry M. Bonner III and Margaret Bonner; Robert P. Bonner and his wife Jennifer and their children Colin and Emily Bonner of Simsbury, CT; and Paul B. Bonner and his wife Elizabeth and their son Curtis Bonner of Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT at 2:00 p.m. on January 6, 2018 with a reception to follow at the Pequot Yacht Club, 669 Harbor Road in Southport.
