H. Jean Tippett, beloved and cherished wife of the late Jack Tippett Sr., of Fairfield, left this earth Friday, February 18, 2022, surrounded by her family, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jean who lived a very active life up to and including age 94, was born in Bridgeport, CT. Jean grew up alongside her 11 siblings in the heart of Black Rock. She graduated with the Bassick High School class of 1945. Shortly after graduating, she landed her first job as Junior Secretary in the Bridgeport Treasurer’s Office. Jean continued as a secretary for many years across several different businesses, before her final position as the office manager for Orthopedic Specialty Group. After retirement, she and her sister, Betty, both earned their associates degrees together in Accounting through Housatonic Community College in 1996.
Jean had met her beloved Jack through her family. After spending time getting to know each other, they inevitably grew to love one another. The pair married and began growing their family together before moving to their home in Fairfield in 1956, where Jean would live out the rest of her life.
Jean worshiped God as a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was involved in many different ministries over the years. A woman of integrity, Jean was loving, giving, considerate and kind hearted. She was always willing to share her faith, as well as being a constant source of wisdom, strength and encouragement. In addition to her serving in her faith community, Jean also served as a volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital for many years. In her later years, you could find Jean at the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield every week playing pinochle with her friends. Jean also loved nothing more than settling down with a good book or taking a stroll through St. Mary’s by the Sea in her native Black Rock.
Jean loved and cherished her home and family. She is survived by her children, Fred Tippett and Anne Christian, Kathy Tippett Pauze, and Janice and Gary Kelb; her grandchildren, Tracey, Todd, Terry, Tammy, Alison, Joshua and Jesse; her great-grandchildren, Rachel, Chelsey, Alex, Matthew, Grace and Madalyn; as well as her great great-grandchildren, Harris, Martie, Brooks and Welles. In addition to her husband, Jack, Jean is predeceased by her son, Jack Tippett, Jr. and her two daughters-in-law, Irene Tippett and Paula Tippett, as well as 10 of her siblings.
