Idun W. (Wikse) Allerton

Idun W. Allerton, age 88, of Fairfield, formerly of Greenwich, beloved wife of the late John S. Allerton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, April 22, 2022.  Born and raised in Greenwich, the daughter of the late Johannes and Sigrid Wikse, she had been a Greenwich resident for most of her life prior to relocating to Fairfield in 2010. A graduate of Greenwich high School, Idun received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the Teacher’s College of Connecticut and her Master’s in Education from the University of Bridgeport.  She taught K-3 rd grade at the Hamilton Avenue School in Greenwich for many years prior to her retirement.  Idun was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Mianus River Boat & Yacht Club.  She loved to play Bridge with her friends; however her greatest joy was spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.  Survivors include two beloved children, Richard J. Allerton and his fiancée, Nancy Nadolny Gargano of Clinton and Wendy A. Moran and her husband, John of Fairfield and Florida; two cherished grandchildren, Timothy J. Moran and Jennifer A. Moran; a sister, Sigi Bray of Greenwich and a brother, Carl Wikse of Maryland, and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Barry W. Allerton and a brother, O. John Wikse.  A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary-Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich.  For information or to offer an online condolence please visit www.SpearFuneralHome.com
