James “Jim” Giambalvo was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He peacefully passed away in the presence of family on May 17, 2024, at the age of 96.
Jim was born in 1927, in Queens, New York to Vita and Anthony Giambalvo. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army and attended City College of New York. Jim then met his wife, Evangeline (Eva) Franco, whom he married in February 1960. They moved to Westport, Connecticut in 1963, where they raised their two daughters: Lisa and Gina.
Jim worked in the property and casualty insurance industry for more than 40 years. After his retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, swimming at Compo Beach, traveling to national parks, playing golf (he proudly got a hole in one at Longshore Golf Course) and volunteering with FISH to drive cancer patients to the hospital for treatment. He was an active member of the Church of the Assumption in Westport where he frequently served as a lector.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eva, and his daughters Lisa Russ (Patrick) of Atlanta, Ga., and Gina Flynn (Jack) of Westport, Ct. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Erin Galdun (Patrick), Libby Russ, Kelley Flynn and Matthew Flynn and great-grandfather to one great-granddaughter, Margot Galdun. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Vita and Anthony Giambalvo, his sister, Josephine Smith, and his brother, Joseph Giambalvo.
He will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for 11am on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Church of the Assumption. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Feeding America in Jim’s memory.
